It’s been a long time, but we’re reviving this space to share our latest news, updates and more with you. To kick things off, how about a roundup of Korean celebrities who have been spotted in Vivienne Westwood as of late?

Whether you’re a fan of the K-wave or not, you have to admit that Korean celebrities almost always look on point (they were the ones who started the airport fashion trend, after all). Bold, daring and put-together, Korean celebrity style is pretty much in a league of its own.

Here are some Korean celebrities who have been styled in Vivienne Westwood.

Summer 2013 Trends

You know it’s summer when the hemlines get shorter, and bright colours are back in season. Check out our list of summer trends to watch out for.

The Little White Dress

Laura Whitmore

The little white dress is summer’s version of the LBD. Keep the look classy by pairing your white dress with metallic sandals, drop earrings, and a printed day clutch. For a more sophisticated look, take a leaf out of Laura Whitmore’s style book. The MTV Europe presenter wore a crisp Alice McCall mini dress, with a flouncy peplum and short hemline – the perfect dress to take you from day to night.

Stripes

Vivienne Westwood Red Label S/S 2013

Everyone knows that vertical stripes can make you look slimmer, but how do you wear this trend without looking like a jailbird? Always one to think outside of the box, Vivienne Westwood uses variegated stripes in contrasting hues in her latest S/S 2013 Red Label collection, with a hint of polka dots to keep the look fun. The playful mix of prints and graphics demonstrate Westwood’s signature knack for contrasting playful fabrics with ladylike silhouettes.

Yellow

JC de Castelbajac S/S 2013

50 Shade of Gray may have been last summer’s hottest read, but this summer’s hottest trend seems to be fifty shades of, well, yellow. Whether it is citrus bags or mustard ballet flats, yellow seems to be everywhere (and in every shade). For his S/S 2013 show, JC de Castelbajac contrasted grayscale graphics with bright yellow (as seen in the maxi dress above). No stranger to clashing colors, the French designer effortlessly uses color to make his clothes stand out from the crowd. Trust us, you will turn heads when you wear JC de Castelbajac.

Metallics

Tinsley Mortimer x Samantha Thavasa

This season, New York socialite Tinsley Mortimer brings her Midas touch to the signature ruched clutch from her Samantha Thavasa collaboration line. Although we don’t carry her line in our Samantha Thavasa stores in Singapore, we still love how her clutch is so versatile and classic. Whether you’re going for a ladylike or rocker chic look, this metallic clutch will spruce up any outfit in an instant.

Samantha Vega by Samantha Thavasa

Samantha Thavasa has a wide range of pretty bags (that are easy on your wallet!), and its casual line Samantha Vega has a great collection of fun, colourful bags this season. This tote bag below comes in a couple of bright colours, and is a good size for both travel and work. We also love that it has a front clasp pocket, so you can store your essentials for easy access.

Favourite Fashion Bloggers

We love high fashion as much as the next fashionista, but it’s refreshing to come across fashion bloggers who have a more relatable sense of style (aka no crazy shoes or outrageous headpieces). Whenever we need inspiration for outfits, these fashion blogs never fail to give us some ideas.

1) Nicole Warne, Sydney – Gary Pepper

Besides stalking her Instagram religiously, we love checking out the amazing outfit, travel and food pics she posts on her fashion blog, Gary Pepper. The Sydney-based blogger (and fashion icon, dare we say) has a flair for making vintage look, well, modern. Her style is an interesting mix of classic elegance and feminine allure – and she somehow makes high-street labels like ASOS look high-fashion.

2) Wendy Ngyuen, San Francisco – Wendy’s Lookbook

Even though Wendy is petite, she still packs a punch with her well-styled outfits. We love how this San Francisco-based blogger effortlessly mixes high-street with high-fashion, proving that you don’t need to be dressed head-to-toe in designer duds to look fabulous. While at first glance, her outfits may seem somewhat simple compared to the elaborateness of high-fashion outfits, we find ourselves drawn to her style because it’s just so…relatable. Like something you could wear to work or Sunday brunch without scaring the bejeezus out of people. She also has a YouTube channel where she posts hair, makeup and styling tutorials.

3) Aimee Song, Los Angeles – Song of Style

Ahh, yet another Asian blogger on our list…but we can’t help it because Aimee Song is too cool not to be on this list. With her mile-long legs (jealous!) and artistic talent, it’s no wonder this LA-based blogger has gained such a big following. Her casual, laid back style gives off a relaxed California girl vibe…and have we mentioned how she’s got an amazing tan to boot? No, really, how does she look so…golden all the time (as opposed to looking charred like Snooki)?

4) Gala Gonzales, London – Amlul.com

This Spanish-born style-setter does the model-off-duty look to a tee (guess it helps that she has picture perfect features). The creative director and stylist also happens to be the niece of famous Spanish designer Adolfo Dominguez, so it’s no wonder she’s got such a flair for fashion. Her blog features posts of her everyday life, as well as outfit photos.

About Vivienne Westwood

British designer Vivienne Westwood arrives at the end of her Spring/Summer 2010 collection in Paris

Dame Vivienne Westwood is undoubtedly one of Britain’s most famous designers and her quirky designs are well-known throughout the world. Even at 72 years old, the British designer is still full of spunk and, dare we say, attitude. Once a primary school teacher (yes, she really was!), Dame Westwood got famous for making punk mainstream in the 1970s.

FAVOURITE FACTS

  • Dame Westwood reportedly met the Queen at Buckingham Palace without her knickers on, and caused quite a stir when she twirled in her dress.  Fortunately, the Queen was amused rather than offended by this.
  • At her Autumn-Winter 2003 show, the quirky designer sent men down the catwalk wearing fake breasts under cashmere sweaters and polo necks. She explained that her inspiration came from “Fifties sweater bots”.
  • The influential designer was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design at the British Fashion Awards in 2007. However, she was late to go on stage to collect it because she was in the loo.
  • Not a stranger to controversy, Dame Westwood once remarked that HRH Kate Middleton had “a problem with eye-makeup” (lol).

Spring Summer 2013 Fashion Trends

There’s no season we love more than summer, even if it’s warm all year round here in sunny Singapore. With it comes lighter fabrics, delicate details and floral prints that make you want to plan your next beach getaway. Check out some of our favourite trends this season.

Laser-cut Details

ImageVivienne Westwood laser-cut off-shoulder top with matching flared skirt.

There’s a certain charm about laser-cut patterns – perhaps it’s the delicateness of the details that add a feminine touch to an outfit. This season, we spotted the laser-cut trend in the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania collection, from her signature off-shoulder dresses to flouncy A-line skirts.

Floral Prints

Image

Betty Barclay printed pants paired with a breezy white shirt.

Reminiscent of spring, floral prints are one of our favourite trends to wear this season. We love how designers like Betty Barclay have incorporated floral print trousers into their collection – a nice change from the usual floral skirts or dresses. Floral print trousers may seem like a tricky one to pear-shaped ladies, but they’re actually quite wearable. Our advice? Go for a slim cut and pair them with a looser top in basic colours like white or nude.

Coral Hues

Image

We’ve seen lots of coral hues this season, and we can see why. This orange-pink shade gives any outfit a refreshing pop of colour, and is easy to match with. We like this colour best on handbags and accessories, especially when paired with khaki, grey or even matching floral outfits.

Party Dresses

A good party dress is an essential in any closet, especially one you can slip on to look (and feel) fabulous instantly. One of our go-to brands for cute (and affordable!) party dresses is Vera Mont, the sister label of German fashion brand Betty Barclay.

The new collection features bright pops of colours and flirty florals, in all sorts of cuts and fabrics suitable for both cocktail and casual parties. Check out some images from the collection below.

Vera Mont is available at our Betty Barclay corner located at Isetan Orchard (Shaw House), Level 2.

Miranda Kerr for Samantha Thavasa

13.03 - MK (APR-Aqua)-Azayle(low)

A few seasons ago, Japanese handbag and accessories label Samantha Thavasa signed on Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr as a campaign model. We love the new Spring campaign ad above, featuring Miranda and one of the brand’s best-selling styles, the Azayle bag. The classic style of the Azayle, coupled with Miranda Kerr’s undeniable charm, made this a real hit with fans of the brand.

Miranda SamanthaThavasa3

We love the red Azayle Miranda is carrying above, and this season, the bag comes in pastel colours to complement the lightness of Spring. The pastel purple one below is such a pretty shade!

ST_Pastel Purple Azayle

Another Spring favourite of ours is the Verre tote bag below, which comes in a range of candy colours – including pink, pastel blue, orange – as well as basic colours like black, white and grey.

ST Verre Pink

The Verre tote bag is perfect for all sorts of occasions, really. The light pink is great for a weekend getaway or shopping trip with the girls, while the neutrals like black and grey are good for both work and travelling. If you’re interested, this bag is available at our ION Orchard store for $550.

For a change of colour, we’ve also got these cute neon satchels from Samantha Vega, Samantha Thavasa’s sister brand that carries a more casual line. These neon satchels will add a pop of colour to any outfit, and the best part? They’re easy on the wallet as well. The Samantha Vega Neon Winda Satchel retails at $242 and is available at our store located at Isetan Orchard, Wisma Atria basement.

Vivienne Tam at New York Fashion Week 2013

Despite  the terrible weather, New York Fashion Week still powered through. Nothing gets in the way of fabulous fashion, we say. Not even life-threatening snow storms.

Along with other renowned American designers, Vivienne Tam showcased her Autumn Winter 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week. Inspired by Pop Art and revolutionary Chinese politician Mao Zedong, the collection was an edgy take on Vivienne’s signature East-meets-West designs.
